Mass society occurs as society in which the concerns of the majority – the lower social classes – play a large role, characterized by extension of voting rights, an improved standard of living for the lower classes & mass education. Less typically, the term mass society is besides utilized by sociologists only to describe a big society - i personally.e. of these composed of numbers of indivudals.

A theory of mass society, cited by Daniel Bell in the first essay in The End of Ideology (1960) as existence "probably the most influential social theory in the Western world today", is from either many sources. Bell, when the survey of the diverse origins & permutations of the conception concludes it doesn't use to modern U.s. by having its numerous diverse voluntary organizations.

C. Mills describes a Western theory that power arises from either a public as a "fairy tale", arguing that autonomous vox populi arising from either ventilatiin doesn't survive, like the disorganised mass which is acted on by an elite group through the mass media thus shaping the nature and severity of "public opinion". A theory of mass society has heavy influenced public discourse in popular culture and even scholarly popular culture studies.
